Azalea Festival Nezu Shrine3. Visit Nezu Shrine (根津神社) and enjoy the beautiful Azalea flowers

Nezu is a wonderful shrine with over 3,000 azalea bushes. The annual Azalea Festival runs from April 7th through Golden Week, May 6th. The Nezu Shrine Azalea Festival is very crowded during Golden Week. Best to visit the week before GW for FULL bloom and before the crowds.

Established in 1705, is a Shinto shrine located in Bunkyō, Tokyo, Japan. The shrine established over 1,900 years ago was transferred to Nezu to commemorate the fifth shogun Tsunayoshi Tokugawa’s choosing of his successor. This shrine is designated as an Important Cultural Property. Dating from 1706, Nezu Shrine is an excellent example of large-scale Edo-era shrine architecture. The vibrant vermilion and gold lacquered ‘gongen-zukuri’ style buildings are a pleasure to view and make great photos.

Yabusame has existed in Japan since the 12th century, and supposedly originated in Kamakura. Grab yourself a spot along the course and watch the arrows fly. Here is a good itinerary for a one day visit to Kamakura.

Details: Archery will take place at 13:00 on Sunday, April 15, 2018. Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Temple is located at 2-1-31 Yukinoshita, Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture 248-8588

Tokyo Antique and Flea Markets5. Gokokuji Antique Fair  (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo) – The Gokokuji Antique Fair is held every month on the second Saturday.  The Gokokuji Temple was built at the wish of Keishoin, the mother of the fifth shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi in 1681. Its main hall is the oldest wooden temple building in Tokyo, that survived the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 and W.W.II. Gokokuji is lovely neighborhood and temple to visit. The market used to be very busy, however, the past year it seems to have really dropped in the number vendors and shoppers. Easy to get to and a nice Temple to see, but a little chancy on the line-up.
